Launch week is different

The first 7 days of FC 27 follow a unique rhythm. Web app traders, early access players, and global launch crowds each create distinct market opportunities. Understanding these phases is essential.

Launch week in Ultimate Team operates on a compressed timeline where market conditions change every 12-24 hours. Players who understand the day-by-day rhythm can multiply their coin balance while others struggle to keep pace.

This guide breaks down the first week into actionable phases, from web app opening through the first weekend league. Each phase has its own opportunities and risks.

Understanding the launch week timeline

Mid-September (Expected September 15-17): FC 27 web app launches. No gameplay yet, but pack opening and trading begin. This is the foundation phase.

September 18: Early access begins for Ultimate Edition and EA Play members. Gameplay starts, first Weekend League qualifiers open, and the market accelerates.

September 25: Global launch for Standard Edition players. Massive influx of new players, packs, and coins floods the market.

Each of these milestones creates a distinct trading environment. Let's examine each day individually.

Days 1-2: Web app opening (No gameplay yet)

What's happening

The web app launches before early access, typically 2-4 days before September 18. During this phase, there's no console or PC gameplay - only pack opening, SBCs, and trading on the web app or companion app.

Players open starter packs, loyalty packs, and any pre-order packs. The market has limited supply and even more limited demand since nobody can play matches yet.

Trading strategy

Don't buy meta cards yet. Prices are artificially inflated during web app phase because supply is low, but these same cards will crash 30-50% once early access begins and pack weight increases.

Focus on consumables and position modifiers. Shadow and Hunter chemistry styles sell well during web app phase as traders prepare squads. Position change cards (LW to LM, ST to CF) also see steady demand.

Complete foundation SBCs only. Early SBCs often have poor reward-to-cost ratios because fodder is expensive. Complete any that give tradeable packs, skip any that lock in untradeable rewards unless absolutely necessary.

Hoard low-rated gold cards (82-84). These will be needed for SBCs once early access begins. Buy them at discard or near-discard prices during web app phase when supply is high and demand is zero.

Target player archetypes

  • Nobody. Seriously. Don't buy players during web app phase unless you're filling an SBC. Player prices only go down from here.
  • If you must buy, focus on discard-price cards (700-1000 coins) that you can resell without loss.

Budget allocation

Keep 80% of coins liquid. Use 20% maximum for consumable flips and low-rated fodder accumulation.

Days 3-5: Early access begins (September 18-20)

What's happening

Early access players can now play matches, complete objectives, and qualify for Weekend League. This is the most volatile market phase of the entire year.

Pack supply increases dramatically as early access players complete SBCs, open pre-order packs, and grind objectives. Demand increases too, but supply growth outpaces it - resulting in falling prices across the board.

Trading strategy

Day 3 (September 18): Watch and wait. Prices are falling, but not consistently. Some cards spike due to early content releases (Marquee Matchups, Objectives). Let the market stabilize before making large purchases.

Day 4 (September 19): Start buying meta budget cards. By day 4, the initial panic selling has settled. This is when you buy your first competitive squad. Target 83-85 rated meta cards that have dropped 40-50% from web app prices.

Day 5 (September 20): Focus on Weekend League investments. The first Weekend League begins Friday, September 20. Players need meta squads by Thursday night. Buy high-pace, high-defense fullbacks and CDMs on Wednesday/Thursday morning, sell Thursday evening.

Target player archetypes (Budget: 10-50k per card)

  • High-pace fullbacks (85+ pace): Essential for early meta. Look for 83-84 rated cards with 85+ pace and decent defending. These sell quickly before Weekend League.
  • Physical CDMs with Med/High work rates: Anchor chemistry style candidates. 75+ pace, 80+ physical, strong defensive stats.
  • Pace + shooting strikers: 85+ pace, 80+ shooting, 4-star skills minimum. These are Weekend League essentials.
  • Meta nations/leagues: Premier League, La Liga, Bundesliga, French, Brazilian, and English players have the highest demand.

Budget allocation

You can now allocate 60% of coins to player investments, 20% to Weekend League flips, 20% liquid for opportunities.

When to sell

Sell Weekend League cards Thursday evening (September 19) before 6 PM UTC. Prices peak as players finalize squads. After 6 PM, everyone is selling and nobody is buying - prices drop fast.

Days 6-7: Global launch weekend (September 25-26)

What's happening

Standard Edition players join the game. This is the largest single influx of new players, coins, and packs all year. Expect 3-4x the player count compared to early access.

Prices experience a temporary spike on Friday morning as new players buy their first squads, followed by a massive crash Friday evening through Sunday as millions of packs flood the market.

Trading strategy

Friday morning (September 25, 8-11 AM UTC): Sell everything. This is the peak. New players are buying squads before prices crash. Sell your entire trade pile, your meta cards, your consumables - everything with profit.

Friday evening through Sunday: Buy phase. Prices crash hard as weekend supply hits. This is when you build your long-term squad for the next 2-3 weeks. Wait for Sunday evening (6-9 PM UTC) for the absolute lowest prices.

Don't panic sell on Sunday. If you miss the Friday morning window, hold your cards through the weekend. Prices recover Monday-Tuesday as supply decreases.

Target player archetypes (Budget: 30-150k per card)

  • 85-87 rated meta cards: Cards that were 200k+ during early access often drop to 80-120k on Sunday of global launch. This is your window for expensive upgrades.
  • High-rated fodder (87-89): Buy these Sunday evening at their lowest. They'll be needed for Icon SBCs and promotional SBCs in weeks 2-3.
  • Special card investments: If any OTW (Ones to Watch) or pre-order special cards are in packs, Sunday is the best time to buy them before they leave packs Monday.

Budget allocation

Friday morning: 0% allocated (everything sold). Sunday evening: 90% allocated to squad and investments, 10% liquid.

Risk management

Don't buy Friday or Saturday. Prices are still falling. Sunday evening 6-9 PM UTC is the safest window. You might miss the absolute bottom (sometimes Monday 3 AM is lowest), but Sunday evening gives you 95% of the value with much less timing risk.

Common launch week mistakes to avoid

  • Buying meta cards during web app phase: You'll lose 30-50% of your coins when early access begins.
  • Holding consumables past early access: Chemistry style prices crash after day 3 as supply increases. Sell before September 19.
  • Panic selling Wednesday-Thursday of early access: Prices are falling, but they stabilize by Thursday. Panic selling Wednesday often means selling at the worst possible moment.
  • Buying a squad Friday morning of global launch: Wait 48 hours. The same squad will be 30% cheaper Sunday evening.
  • Spending all coins on players: Keep 10-20% liquid always. Market opportunities appear suddenly during launch week.

Alternative strategy: Skip launch week entirely

Some experienced traders skip the first week of gameplay completely. They trade on the web app, build a coin balance, then buy their squad in week 2 after the initial chaos settles.

Advantages: Week 2 prices are often 20-30% lower than launch weekend. You also avoid early access bugs, server issues, and meta uncertainty.

Disadvantages: You miss the first Weekend League, early Division Rivals rewards, and the pure fun of day-one gameplay. For many players, being there for launch is worth the coin premium.

If you choose this path, focus on flipping consumables and low-rated fodder during week 1, then build your squad September 28-30 once the market has fully stabilized.

Should you buy FC 27 coins during launch week?

Buying coins can accelerate your squad building, but timing matters enormously. If you buy coins during early access (September 18-24), you're paying premium prices for players who will crash 30-40% within a week.

The optimal time to buy coins is either:

  • Late Sunday, September 26: Prices are at their lowest, so your coins have maximum purchasing power.
  • Week 2 (September 28-30): Market has stabilized, you know the actual meta, and prices won't drop much further for 2-3 weeks.

Recommended starting budgets by phase

Web app (Day 1-2): 5,000-10,000 coins is enough for consumable flips and SBC completions. Don't spend more.

Early access Day 4-5: 50,000-150,000 coins builds a competitive budget meta squad. Prioritize fullbacks, CDMs, and a pace striker.

Global launch Sunday: 200,000-500,000 coins builds a top-tier meta squad with 85-87 rated players. This squad will last 3-4 weeks before upgrades are necessary.

If you have more coins than these benchmarks, invest the surplus in high-rated fodder (87-89) on Sunday evening for future SBCs.
